Opis

Noel Calix has spent his entire life trying to become invisible. The orphaned son of a dead rogue wolf, he was taken in by a powerful Lycan pack and treated like something they were forced to tolerate. So Noel learned to stay quiet, keep his head down, and never draw the attention of the one man everyone feared. Elio Rivera. Ruthless. Untouchable and the newly crowned Alpha and completely obsessed with Noel. When Noel is framed for a crime he didn't commit, Elio should exile him like the pack demands. Instead, he claims Noel under his Alpha authority and takes him to his private estate for "interrogation." Trapped beneath the same roof as the man he's spent years avoiding, Noel expects cruelty. He doesn't expect obsession. Because Elio has been fighting a secret of his own. Noel is his mate. A male mate, a half-human rogue who should not exist and a bond forbidden by Lycan law. If the Council discovers the truth, Noel will be condemned, so Elio does the only thing he knows how to do. He hides him. Protect him. Possesses him. Until Noel discovers just how far the feared Alpha's obsession goes, and realizes the man everyone believes is incapable of love would burn the entire Lycan world before letting anyone take him away. But their secret cannot stay buried forever. When a political marriage threatens to expose Noel, Elio makes a choice that shatters the only person he's sworn to protect. Noel disappears. And when the Alpha finally discovers that his mate is still alive, he will have to choose between his mate and his title.

Chapter 1

NOEL

“Move it, rogue.”

The heavy palm of an Enforcer slammed into my shoulder blade, sending me stumbling across the threshold.

The iron-reinforced doors of the main pack house groaned shut behind me, the heavy thud of the deadbolt echoing like a gunshot.

“I didn't take anything,” I said, keeping my voice level, though my lungs squeezed tight.

“I was in the kitchens all evening. Ask Mrs. Gable.”

“Shut your mouth, half-breed,” the guard on my left hissed, his fingers digging uncomfortably deep into my bicep.

“You’ll speak when the council tells you to.” I kept shut and didn't argue anymore. When you’re half-human and your father’s name is a curse word in these territories, silence is the only armor you have.

I kept my chin tucked, eyes glued to the polished oak floorboards, counting the knots in the wood just to keep my heart from kicking its way out.

But as we crossed the perimeter of the inner chamber, the temperature in the room dropped. The scent of frosted mint and black pepper hit me first, biting, chilling, and unapproachable. My feet froze.

“Keep moving,” the guard snarled, shoving me again. I couldn't look up, but my skin burned.

I knew that scent, I had spent three years learning how to read the exact radius of that aura so I could run in the opposite direction.

Elio Rivera, the newly crowned Lycan Alpha was in the room. He sat at the head of the high-backed Alpha chair and even without looking, I could feel the absolute stillness radiating from him.

He looked like an apex predator watching an insect crawl into his web. “Kneel,” Elder Thomas commanded from the elevated dais.

The guard kicked the back of my knees and I buckled and hit the hardwood hard, the impact jarring up my spine.

“Noel Calix,” Elder Thomas read from a piece of heavy parchment.

“You are brought before the high council under the charge of grand theft against an elite house. Specifically, the theft of the Rivera silver crest dagger. How do you plead?”

“Not guilty,” I said, my voice cracking slightly before I cleared my throat. “I have never even seen the Rivera crest dagger.”

“Lie!” a voice shouted from the gallery. It was Richard, one of the primary heirs to the southern sector estates. And one of the pure blooded Lycans who had taken it upon himself to torture me with every chance.

He stepped forward, his face flushed with outrage. “The dagger went missing from the display case in the north wing between four and five o'clock. You were seen cleaning the corridor outside that exact wing, rogue.”

“I was changing the linens in the guest quarters,” I countered, looking directly at Elder Thomas, deliberately ignoring Richard’s snarling face.

“I never entered the display room. I didn't even have the keys.”

“The lock wasn't picked, Calix,” Elder Vance interjected, leaning forward over his marble desk. His voice was cold, dripping with a lifetime of prejudice.

“It was opened by someone who knows how to bypass standard security, someone who learned the underbelly of this estate from a master thief.” The room grew quiet, the implication hung in the air like smoke from a burnt bridge.

“Like father, like son,” Richard sneered, turning toward the rest of the semi-circle council.

“A rogue doesn't change his blood just because he sweeps our floors. He’s been eyeing the estate assets for months, and my personal guard saw him lingering near the vaults last Tuesday.”

“That's a lie,” I said, my teeth grinding together.

“I was delivering fuel logs to the boiler room. Your guard was the one who told me to take that route.”

“Why would my guard lie? Or are you accusing me of lying?” Richard asked.

“I didn't mean—”

“To frame a half-blood? You overestimate your value, Noel. You’re a parasite in this house, living off our scraps while plotting to line your pockets with our heritage.” Richard cut in.

“Enough,” Elder Thomas barked, tapping his heavy gavel against the wood. He turned his gaze down toward me, his eyes hard and unyielding.

“Noel, we have testimonies from three high-ranking members of this pack who place you at the scene. Do you have any witnesses to corroborate your timeline?”

“Mrs. Gable,” I repeated, desperate.

“She saw me come down to the kitchen at exactly five to return the dirty linens.”

“Mrs. Gable is an omega servant,” Elder Orion dismissed with a wave of his hand.

“Her perception of time is inherently flawed under the influence of pack masking charms. Her testimony is legally inadmissible against the word of pure-blooded Lycans. You know this.”

“So it doesn't matter what I say,” I whispered, the bitterness leaking through my teeth.

“You’ve already decided.”

“We decide based on evidence and character,” Elder Orion said.

“And your character, boy, is written in your lineage. Your father wasn't just a rogue, he stole from us; he betrayed the entire northern border to the feral packs. We let you stay out of a misplaced sense of charity, but it seems that charity has reached its expiration date.”

Throughout the entire exchange, the man in the center hadn't moved an inch. Elio’s silence was heavier than the elders’ shouting.

I could feel his eyes on the side of my face, a pressure so intense, it made the hairs on my arms stand. He didn't say a word, or offer a single hint of what was happening behind those dark, unreadable eyes.

The silence between us felt private, despite the fifty people packed into the gallery.

It pulled at something deep in my chest, a stubborn, ridiculous knot of heat that I had spent years trying to freeze out.

My mind betrayed me, slipping in time and I was back to being seventeen, terrified, and assigned to clean the Alpha heir’s private quarters.

I remember the heavy oak door clicking shut behind me, the sound of his boots on the rug.

The heat of his hands when he gripped my waist, pulling me against the desk until the wood bit into my thighs.

I remembered the taste of him, dark, sharp, and entirely consuming when his mouth found mine in the shadows of that room.

He closed the last inch between us, one hand sliding up the back of my neck, fingers threading into my hair. It was soft at first, like he was tasting waters.

Till this day, I could still feel his tongue tracing the seam of my mouth, slow and deliberate, before slipping inside.

The low growl in his throat as he forced my mouth open for him, his tongue sliding in a wet, unhurried glide.

And when it was over, he had looked at me with an expression so cold it made me wonder if I had imagined the whole thing.

It meant nothing, I'd told myself for the thousandth time, staring at the floorboards. You're a servant. He was bored.

But my pulse didn't care about logic. It thudded in my ears, a frantic, rhythmic reminder of the way my body still gravity-pulled toward his.

“The punishment for high theft by a non-member is clear,” Elder Orion's voice cut through my memory, dragging me back to the freezing reality of the chamber.

“We cannot harbor a thief who threatens the stability of our ancestral vaults.”

“Are you suggesting execution, Elder?” Richard asked, his voice entirely too eager.

“No,” Elder Thomas replied, adjusting his spectacles.

“The item is valuable, but shedding half-blood within the pack house during a lunar transition brings bad omen. I recommend immediate exile. Strip him of his pack-issued identification, escort him to the southern marker, and cast him out.” My breath caught in my throat, my head snapping up before I could stop myself.

“The southern marker? That’s dead territory. The feral rogues will kill me before sunrise.”

“Then you should have thought about that before touching what doesn't belong to you,” Elder Orion said coldly.

“Do any elders object to the motion of exile?” A low murmur of agreement passed through the semi-circle. One by one, the older Lycans nodded their heads.

“The motion carries,” Elder Thomas said, raising his gavel to seal the verdict.

“Noel Calix, by decree of the high council, you are hereby—”

“He isn't leaving.” The gavel froze an inch above the wooden block and the entire council room went deathly silent.

You could even hear the flickering of the wall torches, and the soft intake of breath from the back rows. Elder Thomas lowered his hand slowly, his face tightening with confusion.

“Alpha Elio? The evidence against the boy is substantial. Leaving a rogue inside our borders risks—”

“I don't care about the evidence, Thomas,” Elio said. His voice wasn't loud, but it filled every corner of the room, vibrating through the floorboards and directly into my bones.

I looked up for the first time all night, and my eyes met his. His gaze was steady, dark, and completely unreadable.

“Alpha,” Richard stepped forward, his tone careful but desperate.

“The Rivera family crest dagger belongs to your lineage. He stole from you. Surely you want justice?”

“Will you also tell me what I can do and cannot do?” He asked, smoked Cedarwood and midnight Ozone pheromones burst out of him, forcing Richard a step back, his face pale.

Elio rose from his chair, the movement graceful, yet terrifying. He walked down the steps of the dais, his heavy leather boots clicking against the wood until he stood right in front of me.

“From this moment forward, Noel Calix is under my authority,” Elio declared, his eyes locked on mine. I swallowed hard, the air suddenly too thick to breathe.

“What?” I whispered, the word slipping out before I could stop it. Elio leaned down slightly, his scent wrapping around me like a cage.

“You're coming with me.”

Chapter 2

NOEL

“Keep your hands where I can see them,” the guard muttered, unlocking the iron-bound door of the blacked-out transport van.

I stepped down onto the gravel driveway, the sharp stones crunching under my worn boots.

The cold night air hit my face, but it didn't wash away the suffocating scent of frosted mint and black pepper that had followed me all the way from the pack house.

I looked up at the towering dark stone structure before me, Elio’s private estate sat three miles out from the main pack compound, isolated by a dense perimeter of ancient pines.

There were no iron bars on the windows, like I'd expected, no visible guard towers, and no high razor-wire fences. I always thought his estate was a prison.

“Move,” the guard said, giving me a light nudge toward the wide oak double doors, the heavy doors swung open before we even reached the top step.

A silver-haired butler stood in the entryway, his posture perfectly rigid. When I s
