"You're marrying my mother, Jack,"I said. "And I'm pregnant with your baby." "Pardon?" The icy voice behind us froze me in place. I didn't need to turn to know who it was. Jack's grip tightened, but my knees were already giving out. I turned slowly, and Celeste stood in the doorway, her face a porcelain mask of shock and fury. "Mum…" I took a trembling step toward her, instinctively wrapping my arms around my stomach. "Please, I can explain…" ****** I let his father touch me. I didn’t mean for it to happen. It was supposed to be just one night—a reckless decision to escape the pain of a broken past. I didn’t know who he was, only that he was older, magnetic, and made me feel wanted for the first time in years. But that night changed everything. Jackson Romero isn’t just anyone. He’s the father of my first love—the boy who broke my heart ten years ago. And now… I’m pregnant. Worse, Jackson is about to become my stepfather, and his son is back in my life. They say age is just a number, and Jackson… belongs to my mother. But how can I walk away when every part of me already belongs to him? When my body remembers his touch, but my heart still aches for the boy who turned his back on me. Caught between the twisted lies my mother spins, the betrayal of the boy I once loved, and the dangerously irresistible man I never should have touched, I’m faced with a choice that could destroy us all. In our story, love always comes with a price. And someone lurking in the shadows will stop at nothing to make sure I pay it, no matter the cost.

CHAPTER 1

PROLOGUE

"I don't… I'm not in love with you."

"You're carrying my baby."

"Jack, we can figure something out. But we can't be together. You're…"

"What? Not the man you pictured in your little romance fantasy?"

He was pushing it.

"Well, since you put it that way, yes. You're old enough to be my father… and this baby's grandfather."

Jackson exhaled and slowly removed his glasses. His expression shifted, no longer sharp, but wounded, defeated.

"That's not the reason, though," he said softly. "It's him, isn't it? You're in love with him."

"Jack…"

"No, talk to me, Gia. Remember how you screamed my name that night? How you begged me to f*ck you against the hotel window so the whole city could watch? God, I can't get that night out of my head. But it was so easy for you to disappear, and turn your back, even knowing you're carrying my child."

He stepped closer, voice lowering. "It's because your heart already belonged to someone else."

"I'm not trying to fight," I whispered. "I want peace for the baby."

"Ah, Gia," he said with a bittersweet smile. "You're the most wanting-est woman I've ever met."

I swallowed hard. "I'm going away… With Rio."

"No!" he snapped. "No. He doesn't get to raise my child."

His hand gripped my arm gently, pulling me close. "Why him, Gia? Why would you choose my son over me?"

His voice cracked, not with anger, but with despair.

"You're marrying my mother, Jack," I said. "And I'm pregnant with your baby."

"Pardon?"

The icy voice behind us froze me in place.

"Please, I can explain…"

Crack.

Her palm collided with my face, sharp and unforgiving.

"I had no idea I raised a sl*t!"

CHAPTER 2

"Is there any reason why you're running away from me at 4 a.m.?"

I froze mid-step in the darkness.

"I thought we had a nice time," he rasped behind me, as I stood there clutching my purse and shoes like stolen evidence.

This isn't illegal, was it?

Running away from your one-night stand.

"My Uber is waiting," I whispered, avoiding eye contact.

I heard the sheets rustling as he sat up, and the room became warm as he flicked on the lamp.

When I turned to face him, my breath caught in my throat.

God help me.

I'm reminded all over again why I followed this stranger home. The tousled salt-and-pepper s*x hair. The reading glasses perched on his nose made him look… irresistible.

And it had taken just a drink to make me forget the medical conference and get into bed with him.

I couldn't deny that the night with him turned out to be wonderful.

"But you called it," he said, folding his arms.

"I did."
