Annotation

At 20, Andy's parents passed away, leaving her to care for her 5-year-old brother while living under the roof of relatives. To escape an unpleasant arranged marriage with a greasy man set up by her relatives, she decides to hastily marry William, an ordinary employee who is also "heavily in debt." They agree to a marriage contract: he won't need her help with his mortgage or car loan, and she doesn't expect his affection. However, this 30-year-old "poor husband" is not only ridiculously handsome but also eerily gentlemanly—after marriage, he doesn't even touch her hand! Andy even begins to wonder, "Could he possibly be into men?"

Chapter 1

"I can't believe I married a man I've only met twice."

As she stepped out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, Andy held the fresh, new red booklet in her hand, feeling a little dazed.

Under the sunlight, the name in the groom's section of the marriage certificate—William—was clear yet unfamiliar.

She had truly just gained a husband, who was 6'2" and strikingly handsome.

"Have you remembered your husband's name?" The deep, magnetic voice of the man sounded by her ear, carrying a subtle hint of inquiry.

Andy’s heart skipped a beat. She instinctively glanced at the marriage certificate again and nodded emphatically. "Yes, I remember. William."

She softly repeated the name, as if etching it into her heart.

"I’ve sent you our home address and room number. Here's the key." William handed her a key with a swift, decisive motion. "Go ahead and get familiar with the place. I have work this afternoon and need to visit my sister at the hospital later."

He was dressed in a well-tailored black shirt and trousers, his posture straight, exuding an air of quiet elegance that made him look nothing like the "salesperson" he claimed to be.

But Andy, her mind clouded with confusion, thought perhaps he was a sales executive—busy was his norm.

Taking the key, Andy watched him turn to leave, then hurriedly asked, "Um... when do you think you'll be back? I—I can make dinner and wait for you."

From this moment on, this man, ten years her senior, would be her husband.

She would strive to make this temporary, yet her only support system, "family of four," work.

William paused for a moment, turning his face slightly, his sharply defined jawline appearing cool under the sunlight. "Not sure. There’s a lot to deal with at the hospital."

He hesitated before adding, "You don’t need to wait for me. Go ahead and eat."

Without further delay, he turned and walked briskly toward a plain black sedan parked by the curb.

Andy noticed a stranger, dressed in a suit, driving the car. She assumed he was a colleague or a friend of William's and watched as the car merged into the traffic and disappeared from sight.

Salespeople were indeed very busy.

She sniffed, carefully placing the marriage certificate in her bag, her lips curling into a bittersweet yet slightly hopeful smile.

From today on, she, a twenty-year-old, was someone else’s wife.

Everything was happening so fast, it felt like a dream.

Her first meeting with William had been in the hospital corridor the day she lost her parents.

The second time had been yesterday, when his sister urgently needed a blood transfusion, and she was the only match.

After donating blood, she had stared at his handsome face, weary yet filled with concern, and reflected on her own and her brother's difficult circumstances at their uncle’s house. Amidst the growing scheming of her aunt, Andy, in a moment of heat, blurted out, "Mr. William, let’s… get married? I know this is sudden, but our situations are similar. We both need to provide stability for our children. I can take care of your sister and my brother too."

She had expected to be dismissed as crazy, but to her surprise, William had simply paused for a few seconds, his piercing gaze scanning her face before he nodded in agreement. "Okay."

And just like that, they became husband and wife.

Perhaps it was their shared sense of suffering, perhaps it was his calm and reliable demeanor, or perhaps... it was just because he was so incredibly handsome.

Whatever the reason, for Andy, who was desperate to escape her uncle’s house, this was the best choice.

Taking a deep breath, she pushed her thoughts aside and turned toward the bus stop, needing to hurry and pick up her younger brother Ben from kindergarten.

On the bus, her phone rang at an inopportune moment, the screen flashing with the name "Aunt Isabella."

Andy hesitated for a few seconds before answering the call.

"Andy! Where the hell have you been? Didn’t I tell you to come back early? We have important guests! Hurry up and come home!" Isabella's sharp, malicious voice came through the receiver, making Andy’s eardrums ache.

Important guests? Andy sneered inwardly.

It was probably that overweight, idle man who wanted to buy her with a dowry of two hundred thousand, her aunt's latest scheme.

"Aunt," Andy's voice was calm, "I’ve gotten married. My brother and I will be moving out. You don't need to worry about us anymore. And please, don’t try to make plans for me again."

"What did you say?! You little brat, you think you’re grown now? How dare you…"

Before Isabella could continue shouting, Andy hung up the phone, quickly blocking both her uncle and aunt’s numbers.

For the past year, she had worked like a mule, handing over her entire five-thousand-yuan salary each month, which was still not enough to cover their so-called "maintenance fees." Now, they were trying to sell her off for a good price.

Relatives like these were better off avoided.

At least her new husband, though they had known each other for a short time, was handsome, had a decent job (or so she believed), and was older, perhaps capable of showing some care.

The taxi quickly arrived at the kindergarten. Andy swiftly handled her brother’s withdrawal procedures and took the bewildered little Ben into her arms, planting a kiss on his soft cheek.

"Ben, let’s go to a new home, a place where Aunt Isabella can’t bully us anymore, okay?"

The five-year-old boy, with his delicate features, was especially obedient.

Hearing that they could leave Aunt Isabella’s house, his eyes lit up. He happily wrapped his arms around Andy’s neck and kissed her back. "Really, sis? We won’t have to see Aunt Isabella’s face anymore?"

"Yes! We’re going to our new home right now!"

Andy took Ben’s little hand and, following the address on her phone, took the bus to a place called "Garden Community."

The community looked a bit old, with low-rise buildings and faded walls. It was located outside the Third Ring Road, quite ordinary.

After reporting their room number to the gatekeeper, they were allowed entry.

They found the corresponding building and door number, and Andy unlocked the door with the key.

The apartment wasn’t large, about 70-80 square meters, with two bedrooms and a living room. Yet, it was spotlessly clean, and though the furniture was not new, it was neatly arranged. In the corner, there were a few children’s toys, exuding a warm, homely atmosphere.

"Wow! Sis, is this our home?" Little Ben excitedly wriggled out of Andy’s hand and curiously looked around the new place.

"Yes, it’s our temporary home." Andy closed the door gently, reminding him in a soft voice, "Ben, remember, there are more people living here than just the two of us. William uncle and his sick sister also live here. So don’t touch uncle’s things. Be a polite, good boy, okay?"

Ben nodded, his hand, which had been reaching for a robot toy, retracting obediently.

Andy quickly surveyed the layout of the apartment. In addition to the two bedrooms, the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and balcony, there was even a small study.

Small but complete—just right for a modest family.

Thinking of William’s sister still in the hospital, Andy checked the time. It was still early.

She rolled up her sleeves and headed for the kitchen.

As the new wife and the one who had received his help, she felt she should do something for this home.

She’d start by making some food, then take it to them at the hospital later.

Meanwhile, in the city center, at the top floor of the Gallie family group headquarters.

The atmosphere in the CEO’s office was solemn.

Assistant Kelly stood respectfully beside the enormous desk, softly reporting, "President, as per your instructions, a regular vehicle has been prepared and is parked in the underground garage B. The brand and model have been kept low-key."

William, engrossed in his documents, didn’t look up. His voice was indifferent. "Price?"

"…Around four hundred thousand." Kelly responded cautiously, uncertain if this price was acceptable, considering the CEO had previously rejected all luxurious properties.

"I found nothing cheaper yet still dignified enough to match your status, sir."

William, still without lifting his eyes, asked coldly, "Four hundred thousand. Is that ‘ordinary’?"

Kelly froze. His voice trembled slightly, "Pardon me, sir! I’ll reconsider and replace it. Would a vehicle in the 100-150 thousand range suffice?"

"Not over two hundred thousand." William frowned, his tone edging toward impatience. "Also, from now on, take this car when picking me up. When you see Andy, tell her you're my friend giving me a lift. My current role is still 'salesman.'"

"Understood, sir," Kelly replied, holding back his curiosity.

He couldn’t understand why the president was hiding his identity from the newlywed Andy, who was possibly marrying out of gratitude (or some other motive).

Could it be… that William had special feelings for this girl, Andy?

William glanced at his wristwatch, closed his files, and stood. "Let’s go to the hospital." He had to check on his sister’s condition.

Chapter 2

Hospital, Ward Area.

Andy, carrying a thermos and holding Xiao Ben’s hand, had just reached the door of a patient’s room when the faint sound of a young girl crying reached her ears, her voice trembling with pain, making it impossible not to feel heartache.

"Ugh... Brother... I want my brother... It hurts..."

Then, the anxious voice of a nurse followed, "No, her temperature is rising, and the wound is bleeding again. Contact Mr. William immediately! If she keeps crying, it will hinder her recovery."

A sharp pang tightened in Andy’s chest. She lowered her head and said to her younger brother, “Ben, the little girl is in pain and crying. Please go in and keep her company, cheer her up, just like you would with your sister, alright?”

Xiao Ben, ever mature for his age, nodded and patted his chest like an adult, "Don’t worry, sis, leave it to me!" With that, he trotted into the room.

Andy took a deep breath and followed him in, her voice gentle as she
