A detective is summoned to investigate the disappearance of Amelia, the daughter of the wealthy Worthington family. After interviewing everyone on the guest list, the detective finds out that Robert Sinclair, who was seen arguing with Amelia before she disappeared, may have information about her whereabouts. Sinclair confesses to kidnapping Amelia for ransom, but she gets sick and he panics, leaving her at the hospital. Amelia is found alive and Sinclair is arrested. The detective wants to know how Sinclair managed to get away with kidnapping Amelia for so long and finds out that he needed money and saw Amelia at the charity event as an easy target.

This book follows Anna, who arrives in the small town of Oakwood to attend her aunt's funeral. Anna inherits her aunt's house, but soon realizes that the house is haunted by the spirits of a local cult involved in gruesome murders in the 1960s. Anna contacts a local psychic to help release the spirits from the house, and together they perform a ritual.
