I'm almost half way through and I can say that this book grew on me. I started reading it because the summary seemed quite appealing. After a few chapters though, I had some perplexities because the behaviour and comments of the older, wealthy, powerful professor towards the orphaned, poor, inexperienced student felt a bit like grooming. So I proceeded with caution and I'm glad I did. I started to care for the main characters and now I'm dreading the inevitable plot developments that will hurt them.
