Meredith Vale has spent her entire life believing she is an ordinary orphan. Until a mysterious invitation to an academy she's never heard of changes everything. Blackthorn Academy isn't a normal school. Hidden from the human world, it trains witches and other gifted beings—and Meredith soon discovers that she possesses powers she never knew existed. But something about her arrival feels wrong. The students know more about her than they should. Strange whispers follow her through the halls, ancient secrets seem to be connected to her, and someone at the academy desperately wants her gone. Then there's Lucien Blackthorne—the dangerously powerful student Meredith was warned to stay away from. He knows something about her. Something he refuses to tell her. As Meredith gets closer to uncovering the truth about her past, she begins to question everything she thought she knew about herself, the academy, and the boy she's falling for. Because Meredith wasn't invited to Blackthorn by accident. And whatever brought her there may destroy them all.
