I could feel the heat of his body on me because he was so close. When my heart was about to explode, sweat was all over my body. when my legs gave out on me. "I said leave me alone," I yelled through my lungs as I was struggling to breathe. "Sssshhhhh....." When he leaned closer to my ear, he was serene. "It's fine with me even if you don't love me; I'm not going to ask you to love me; I just want you around me because you're my bride and only I have a right to you," he explained. "So I chose death over being with you," I spat a bitter truth while daring to look him in the eyes, which triggered him even more. "Then die," he said shamelessly. -------------- Sansa Elsher was taken on her wedding day by an Alpha Xavier, who claimed her as his bride by the law of pronouncement of wonder, the law from which she was bound by him even before she was born. To save her lover, Logan, she pretended to be Xavier's wife and was forced to accept him as her mate. Things got worse when Sansa's twisted fate brought her true mate right in front of her, whom she can't deny or accept at the same time. This is the first book in the series; the second book, "Under The Moonlight: Alpha's Bride 2," is now available.
On The Run
I lay with my face against the muddy, wet ground, my hands gripping the mud, and I was in trouble. The creature with ahold of my leg had more strength than my fear.
In my grief, there was a glimmer of defiance, and I fought back. By contorting my body, I was able to turn onto my back, while also having the opportunity to fling dirt into his face, blinding him for a moment. I was fighting for my life.
I had little prospect of escaping, and no time to rest or to mourn. I was running out of time, pushing my aching limbs to propel me along the treacherous route, searching for shelter. I pushed on, swimming through the dark waters, and making my way on the treacherous ground covered with debris from the torrential rain.
My limbs were in excruciating pain but I persisted, and found refuge in the shadow of a towering tree so I might rest and restore my strength. Then, I heard them, the menacing footsteps. It grew louder and louder, reverberating through the forest.
I felt my heart racing, and adrenaline coursed through my veins, as I knew that I was about to be subjected to a heinous fate and my life was in grave danger.
"We both know you're out of options. Chances are, you're not going to escape me," he sneered, his voice mocking, his eyes scanning his surroundings.
As I watched him, hidden in the clutches of a twisted trunk, I fought to catch my breath. He was mere feet from me, and I was constantly moving, scurrying from tree to tree as he moved around. He temporarily turned his attention away from me when a bird flew to a nearby tree.
"Don't test my patience, Sansa," he growled, in a threatening tone.
In that moment, it became clear that Edward Elijah immensely enjoyed watching my awful fate, enjoying the hopelessness of my escape. He had a morbid desire to kill me just before the trial, and to hide the truth inside my dead body.
I always had a deep seeded contempt for the Oak Pack and its archaic way of life, a venom that had sustained their faith for thousands of years. I was never completely embraced by the Oak Pack, despite Xavier's attempts. The conflict between our personalities and their archaic philosophy to our thought patterns and reasoning. They had no will of their own, obeying the Alpha's law, their worship akin to worship, regardless of his judgements' wisdom or foolishness.
Edward wore a tight black leather jacket, giving him the appearance of being impervious to the cold night outside, whereas I wore a torn, blue tattered nightgown, which did anything but protect me from the cold.
My bruised skin was bared, new rivulets of blood running down to show that he had tortured me to the point of blood flowing. Only a handful of the pack knew of my escape, and the heinous acts I had witnessed.
My heart thudded wildly in my chest as Edward continued to slowly walk towards the tree in which I was concealed. I moved slowly and stealthily as I stepped behind the tree, wanting to conceal myself and move.
As I carefully entered the thicket, a twig snapped beneath my weight, repeating my earlier mistake. Edward Elijah's eyes were drawn to me like a magnet, his gaze quick and intense.
With his cruel hands now wrapped around my throat and his hands effortlessly ripping me from the ground, fear coursed through my veins, leaving me unable to even beg for my life.
"Where are you headed?" he growled, his voice dripping in contempt.
My eyes started to flash a vicious green shade, my fangs to lengthen and my claws to grow, a distressing process that symbolised my Hybrora nature, trapped between the wolf and human worlds. But I could never fully transform, always straddling the fence.
"You stupid little bird, you're not one of us," he told me, enjoying my pain. His malicious desire came from a thirst for my blood and he considered me as an enemy and prey.
He was enjoying my torture. He was thirsty for my blood and foe.
"The oak pack won't let the enemy escape; that's the first rule," he claimed.
I wanted to cry out for help but couldn't because I was being tortured by Edward Elijah, the beta of the Oak Pack, which was known for its savagery and cruelty.
"It's a bit of a shame that you are not technically part of the pack. but we took you in. What did you do in the end? You betrayed us," Edward yelled angrily.
I would have died in a second because I was running out of air. Edward was betraying his Alpha Xavier by trying to kill me to take revenge on his best friend, Levine Ronan, because he believed that I had killed him because he was my true mate.
"The guilty shall not go unpunished," he said as if he was going to devour me.
"Enough," Adam said.
Adam Nigel, another beta pack member, came towards us. Edward dropped me. I was choking and gasping.
confused Adam asked, "What are you doing Edward?"
"She was running away," Edward replied.
"We are not here to kill anyone," Adam said, seriously.
While I was finding my rhythm in breathing, Adam squatted in front of me and gently lifted my head by my chin.
"Look at you," Adam sadly said to me.
He kept staring at me looking at all of my bruises and my dirty bare feet. He saw all.
"Why are you torturing yourself? Lady Sansa, where are you running to if you are innocent?" Adam asked.
Adam was worried because he was the only werewolf who didn't bullying me and saved me from Edward Elijah.
"Why did you kill him?" Edward inquired.
"Fu** you, Edward," I replied.
I was so scared but I was a good pretender, so I pretended I wasn't. After Adam had pushed his hand from my jaw, I used the tree to get up.
angrily, and blocking my way. Edward asked again, "Why did you do that?"
I stepped back several times, taking no notice of his questions. Edward grabbed my hand. I angrily swatted his hand. I saw his teeth emerge. Adam stopped Edward from hurting me.
"Stop it," Adam told Edward.
"You think Xavier would execute her for her crime? Adam, we should end this now," Edward was trying to convince.
"What are you saying?" Adam asked Edward.
"I don't trust Xavier in this," Edward said.
"He is an alpha," Adam stood up for him.
"He is also the husband of this criminal," Edward angrily added.
"He was an oak before that," Adam stated the fact.
Furious, Edward snarled; impatiently waiting for a chance to kill me, but Adam was in his way for now.
Adam was trying to convince me "Lady Sansa, you understand, the oak will not kill an innocent."
I could not return; even if I did, I would not be saved. I fled, after tearing up the bridges.
"Isn't it fascinating? Xavier will be your judge. I wonder what he'd torture you with, would he cut your hands off? Or put you in prison forever, or make you a pack slave so that you can be fucked by everyone," Edward said in a dreamy and laughing voice, as he had always wanted.
"It's not safe for you to be on your own," Adam said to me.
I looked out over the fence, just a few feet away. Adam had been looking over it since he arrived. I could only see at night.
I informed Adam. "I won't go back."
"You have got to or you will die here," threatened Edward.
When I was merely listening to Adam, Edward was trying to distract me.
I told Adam, looking him in the eye, "I will still say no to you."
"Please, try to understand that if you leave now, they will chase you and kill you ruthlessly; you should try to prove your innocence in the trial," Adam said to me.
"I trust no one," I replied sadly.
"Trust no one but your own self; if you did not kill Levine, prove that; come with me; by running away, you are confessing your guilt before the trial," Adam said earnestly.
Adam was right; I panicked, and my decision to escape from there was wrong, enabling Edward to harm me in that way. I ran to escape, not wishing to fight to punish the bullies who harassed me, Edward, and his friends.
"You will be avenged, be assured," Adam told me.
Adam convinced me to go back and I started to walk with him.
The Dungeon
"He is an Oak Alpha before her husband," Adam replied.
Edward growled. It wasn't loud, but it had the sort of restraint to it that meant it could explode at any moment. He took a step toward him, and Adam stepped in his way, not breaking eye contact.
Something passed between them, a message that Adam understood.
Adam didn’t flinch. He just returned his gaze to mine.
I don't want to hurt you,” he said more slowly. “I don't kill innocents, Sansa.
Innocent.
The word wasn't coming out right.
This was certainly no longer innocent.
Not me. Not them. The blood they all thought I bore on my hands.
I didn’t answer. There didn't seem to be any point in doing anything.
Edward laughed, without humour.
“Xavier will be the one to decide your fate,” he said, almost laughing. I wonder how forgiving he’ll be when he passes judgement on you.”
Adam’s jaw tightened. “That’s enough.”
But Edward wasn't done.
