Chapter 1

Take the blame Sean had just returned from a very stressful day at work.

"He heard some weird rumors at work, but he wasn't sure if there were true. Well that wasn't what mattered to him right now.

Today was his wife's birthday and he hope to celebrate it with her like he did every year. He has known his wife Amelia ten years now, married her just after their finished college. Yet his love for her renew every single day.

Sean nudged the living room door open and was met with a tense and eerie atmosphere.

Mr Kelvin Williams and his wife Rose sat on one couch, while Amelia his wife sat on the other couch with her hands folded. He couldn't really read the expression on his in-laws faces, but his wife's face was heavy, it looked like she had been crying. That was what really matters now.

He hates seeing her in tears. “Amelia” Sean rushed to his wife, who cover her face with her hands as their eyes made contact.

Sean misunderstand the situation as he thought he was in trouble for getting soaked up at work and coming home late, as today was Amelia's birthday.

“Baby, baby am so sorry for coming back at this time.

There were somethings that needed my attention at the office.” He said, running to hold her hand. “It's fine, babe.” Amelia said, not making eye contact with him.

“Then what's wrong darling, why are you so gloomy?” Sean asked, briefly glancing at his in-laws. “Look, Sean, something urgent came up,” Kelvin finally said.

“What do you mean?” asked Sean impatient to know what made his wife's face like this. He didn't like seeing her like this. “No, Dad, let me” Amelia called, cutting off her father who wanted to speak.

Looking back at Sean who looked lost and confused, she continued. “Dad was accused of money laundering by the board of directors.” Amelia said, embarrassed, causing Sean's eyes to open up in awe.” “Dad said he didn't do it, he was framed and I believe him.” Amelia added and Sean's eyes trailed to his father in-law.

“Oh!!!, that's not good,” Sean said, genuinely pitying the man who didn't give a sh*t about him. What he heard in the office came out to be true. “No it's not,” Amelia agreed.

“Our firm is one of the fastest and biggest growing firms in the country, if it's found out by the public that the owner is launching money, all my parents have worked hard for will crumble” She said almost bursting out into tears.

Sean wrapped his hands around her. He didn't really care about his in-laws as they had always demeaned him.

But he cared about his wife, and Amelia loved her parents. “I heard about that in the office today.

Everyone was taking about it.” He said, and Amelia burst into tears again.

You know what to do right, Sean?, it's time to keep your end of the deal” Kelvin said, adjusting himself on the couch.

Sean swallowed hard and his heart skipped a beat.

He bit down his tongue as he should have already grown accustomed to his father in-law husky voice by now.

For the past ten years living with the Williams, he had been belittle and scored by his in-laws because of his background. “What are you taking about?” Sean inquired, confused.

“Have you suddenly developed amnesia? His mother in-law sneered at him. “I don't, Sean voice trailed off.

“Here” Kelvin Williams said as he threw a big brown envelope Sean recognized immediately on the table.

Perplexed, Sean tentatively picked up the envelope, he knew what the content held. He remembered vividly who he was and what led him to signing that contract.

He clearly remembered that his in-laws bought him at an auction house years ago while he was just 18 years old and made him sign this contract in exchange for him marrying their daughter after going to the university and earning a spot in their firm. His mind trailed back to the night of the auction…… ******* “Tonight we present to you the main event of the evening.”

The auctioneer announced through gritted teeth. “18 years old Sean, who has just been sold of by his foster parents was pushed into a metallic caged and bounded.

“The auction price started at $five hundred thousand dollars.” The man announced and Sean could feel a cold breeze run through his body.

“$six hundred thousand dollars.” One of the millionaire sitting in the crowd said throw the microphone installed on their table.

“Eight hundred thousand dollars. I have never had a young male blood all to myself.” Another one said, erupting laughter throughout the auditorium.

Difference prizes were thrown in the air until…. “Four millionaire dollars.” A male hoarse voice ranged through out the auditorium, impacting absolute silence, that even the music playing in the background stop playing.

“There stood Mr and Mrs Williams in all their glory, dressed and adorned in luxurious dresses. Ever since then, sean regarded them as his saviours.

He adored them, even though they always treated him as trash. But what Sean didn't understand was what it had to do with this case.

“I..I don't understand” Sean said, his eyes moving from Rose to Kelvin. “What don't you understand?” His mother in-law asked with frustration.

“I-” “You agreed to do as I said, should in case crises arise in the future. It's in there you can check.” “Dad!!” Amelia scolded as her father scoffed.

Sean hurriedly opened up the envelope and scanned through the contract. His father in-law was right.

“It was written at the end of the second page, slightly under his signature in a hidden Clause and in a smaller font.

“Okay!! So? Sean asked dropping the envelope on the table. “Take the blame, go in my place” Kelvin said bluntly, with no expression or what so ever on his face.

“What?” Sean eyes widened with shock. “Dad!” Amelia yelled, drawing her father's attention to her.

“Temporarily honey, it's temporarily, Kelvin clarify as he stood up, looking from his daughter to Sean.”

If Sean takes the blame, for the money laundering, it won't cause an issue for me and the firm. “Are you saying Sean should go to jail? Wow!! Dad, I know you dislike him, but this is too extreme”.

Amelia tried to reason with her father while Sean sat there lost of words. Wow!!. “As I said, it's temporary. Look Amelia-” Kelvin explained to his daughter as though she was the one asked to go to prison.

“If word gets out about the money laundering, you know what it will do to me, the firm. You know what it will do to us. Besides, it's only for a few days as there is no evidence yet.”

“Amelia stared at her father in shock and back at Sean who felt like a spectator in his own life drama.

“Look at him.” Rose said with disgust and contempt.” Good for nothing, sure a nuisance. He's been nothing but a burden to this family.

But he can't do this simple thing.” Amelia sighed, watching as Sean was mistreated and insulted. There was nothing much she could do. She was helpless as Sean when it came to her mother.

“What made you think this useless boy could help?” Rose queried her husband. “I've always been against you giving our only daughter to him.

If we've stuck to our original plan of just placing him in the firm and later on framing him, Amelia here would have married the Wilson's son as she has always wanted and our lives would have been much more different now”.

Sean felt his hands closing in fist. How dare they wish his wife was married to another man. He will rather die. “I accept” Sean spoke suddenly, all eyes turned to him.

Chapter 2

“I accept. “What?”

Amelia asked, unsure about what she heard the first time. “I'll take the blame for your father.

“I'll happily go to prison for him. “Sean reaffirmed, standing up from the couch.

“What the hell are you on about now?” Amelia snarled at Sean.

“Baby, let me do this okay? Please “ Sean begged with his eyes, while his in-laws watched the exchange.

“You're okay with going to prison?” Amelia asked cynically.

“Amelia see, it's just for a few days, I'll be back before you know it. I'm sure father has a plan.

“No, I can't-” “I forgot to add Sean, you'll have to divorce Amelia.”

Kelvin said cutting Amelia off. “What?” Amelia and Sean asked rhythmically.

“Yes, that's the only way for anyone to believe the story.”

“Divorce? Oh! Dad please” Amelia said looking stunned. Kelvin signed.”

Let's say you threatened to divorce him because you caught him cheating.
