I wasn’t supposed to be there that night. I wasn’t supposed to feel anything. Right from the back of that crowded courtyard, something inside the most powerful man on campus cracked open. He has never lost control in a day in his life, until the night of the bond ceremony. And I felt all of it. The rage, the grief, the loneliness he had kept locked away for so long. By morning, he tracks down whoever felt his fracture, he expects a threat. But, he finds me instead; Nora Vane, a human scholarship student who can’t explain why she felt a werewolf’s emotional collapse from across a crowded courtyard. He should eliminate the problem. Instead, he does something that shocks the entire supernatural world. He claimed me in front of everyone, he took my hand and told the full room that I belonged to him. He told me it was just politics, protection, and it's temporary. Caden Wolfe Heir to the strongest werewolf bloodline in the supernatural world. Cold and always in control. The real problem is I can feel what he actually feels. Not guesses, not hints. Every wall he builds, I sense what is behind it, and what is hiding there is nothing like the man he shows the world. The council wants me gone. There is an old law written to make sure someone like me never exists. The danger could not be greater. But what truly scares me is not the council. It is him. Some bonds do not ask for permission. This one never did.

Falling for the school's star goalie was never the plan—especially when my father is the principal who just banned him from the ice. But getting caught in a scandal with the boy I'm supposed to 'fix'? That's more than a catastrophe; it's a death sentence. Aria Bennett is a top student with perfect grades but no social life. She is assigned to tutor the school's newest transfer student, Jason Monroe. However, Jason is consistently late to their sessions, cocky, and resistant to being told what to do. Aria just wants to get the tutoring over with. Things take a turn when she discovers that Jason is on academic probation and risks losing his spot as the goalie on the hockey team. This revelation softens Aria's perspective on him. As their late-night tutoring sessions become a regular occurrence, Aria starts to see the vulnerabilities behind Jason's tough exterior. Meanwhile, Jason never intended to develop feelings for the girl who dresses in oversized hoodies and carries notebooks. Yet, somehow, Aria is getting under his skin and possibly into his heart. ****** "Does Daddy know you're at a party full of hot hockey players and drinking beer?" "Leave me alone," I spat. Jason grinned slyly and leaned in closer. "You know I heard you dressed up thinking you were going on a date, and the guy turned out to be gay." In a drunken stumble, Jason stepped too close and fell on top of me. Jason's eyes fluttered open slightly as he cupped my face. I froze. His hands were warm against my skin, but rational thought fled me. He gave me a look that screamed trouble. And just as I suspected, he leaned in and kissed my lips. "Dary... don't leave me again, please," he murmured against my mouth before biting my lower lip. My brain had completely shut down. It was my first kiss.

I didn't call out again but his scent was still wafting over with the wind. I knew he was standing just a few feet to my left. I sat down on the deck and continued moon gazing. I was acutely aware of the presence of my mate just a few steps away. The sound of light footsteps came towards me slowly and I stiffened. He stood under the dim light of the deck and I could feel his eyes on me so I looked up. And met Hazel orbs that were a deep forest green. "What are you doing out here?" His voice was low but deep. "I wanted some fresh air," I mumbled but he seemed to have heard me. I was surprised that he talked to me willingly. He didn't answer. He just stood there and continued looking at me. "Are you okay?" I asked. "Why do you ask?" "Nothing. It's just that..." I hesitated and he raised a brow at me in question so I finished off, "You were gone for so many days and I was a bit worried." "Why would you be? It's not like what I do concerns you." He rolled his eyes. I tried to ignore the stinging sensation in my chest from his words. Tried... "But it does. You're..." I trailed off when I noticed the glare he sent my way, "my mate." I finished off. He growled at me and the next thing I knew, I was pinned against the glass entrance door as he strangled my neck. I looked up at him in shock as I reached my hands up to pry his off. His eyes were now a dark brown with little specks of gold in their vicinity. He looked angry. Really angry... "Don't you dare!" he growled as he tightened his grip, cutting off my air. I clawed at his hand. I could feel my heart pumping hard. I knew he wouldn't hurt me. My gut feeling, my instinct told me so. But that doesn't mean his actions wouldn't. "If you ever f*ck*ng dare to call me that useless word again, I will crush you!" He snarled. I shook my head slightly as I started feeling faint. "I-I-c-can-'t-b-brea-the..." I struggled as my eyes watered. That seemed to snap him out of it because he jumped back that instant. I leaned against the door and took in deep breaths, my hands automatically going up to my neck. He stood with his back facing me. His whole body looked tensed and his fist was clenched tightly while the other hand continuously ran through his hair. He gave me a side glance for a few seconds and then he was gone. I stood there dazed at what just happened. Did he hate the word 'mate' so much that he would even do this? Why? Was it from childhood? Or was it that he just doesn't like me?
