Chapter 1

CHAPTER ONE

(DARK SHADOWS)

[City H, Sky Macintosh Villa]

Skylar Macintosh sat on her queen-sized bed with her laptop on her laps. She placed one of her legs on top of the other as she furiously typed away on her laptop.

She was wearing her eyeglasses which gave her a kind of nerdy look. She had a worried expression on her face as she became more engrossed and tensed in her research.

The room was pretty silent except for the continuous sounds made by the keypresses of her laptop as her nails occasionally clicked on them.

Once in a while, Sky would sigh and would tiredly shake her head in a pitiful manner as if she was feeling pity for herself.

Two hours had passed and Sky was still deep necked into her work. Though she felt like stopping, she could not bring herself to stop because of her passion for seeking for answers to the circumstances surrounding the death of her parents.

Yes, she had to unravel the mystery behind their death and make things right. She couldn't afford to let things be.

The manner in which they died maddened her the more and the image of their cold, dead bodies from that night kept replaying in her mind, giving her more strength to keep going and not give up.

The position in which they were found all showed that it was a fatal motor accident but Sky alone knew what it was. It was murder and not a motor accident as the police had claimed and she would get revenge.

After what seemed to be a long time, Sky felt numb and she decided to take a break. She gingerly stood up from the bed and slowly walked towards the window nearest to her.

Opening the shutters, the bright sun immediately shone in the big room and made a quick flick in her eyes. This made Sky to stagger momentarily as she struggled to protect her eyes from the blazing sun. Soon, she was able to adjust to the bright light in the room.

Sky walked around her room for some minutes and felt the numbness leave her legs. She decided to continue with her research to make more findings.

She took a quick glance at her room and noticed that it was a little bit untidy which was unlike her.

"I guess I have to do some cleaning today. I have been slacking off lately. Macintosh empire is draining my energy." She muttered to herself before she returned to her bed and maintained her former sitting position.

Sky adjusted her eyeglasses and proceeded to continue with the research. She suddenly felt uninterested and decided to continue with her research the next day.

Sky logged out of the websites and went to her gallery folder. After scrolling through some pictures, she clicked on a picture and it popped up on the screen.

In the picture was a couple who seemed to be in their early fifties. They were wearing the same outfit and they held each other's hands lovingly as they beautifully smiled at the camera.

Sky felt her heart prick with pain and grief as she stared at the picture. She didn't realize that she had been crying until she felt drops of tears on her hands.

The sad events of that tragic night kept playing and replaying in her mind the more she looked at the picture.

Tears rolled down her beautiful face but she didn't care to wipe them away.

"Dad, Mum, I am so sorry that this had to happen to you. I am so sorry that you had to die in this way but I promise you, I will fish out the b*st*rd who did this to us. I will find the evil souls who ruined our beautiful family and let them face justice. Your deaths cannot be in vain. I will avenge your deaths. I don't care about how long it takes. You must be avenged." Sky said as she cried bitterly and released the sorrow that she held in her heart for so long.

Ever since the death of her parents, she had not cried much. The pain was too much for her to bear so she kept to herself. This worried her friends a lot and had thought that the tragedy has affected her brain.

Skylar could not hold the grief in her heart anymore. She released it and cried till tears could not come out of her eyes anymore.

Her villa was filled with sobs of a grieving heart. She cried and mourned till her voice went hoarse and her eyes reddish and puffy.

Clicking again on the keyboard, another picture popped up on the screen. She was sitting beside an old woman and had her arms wrapped round the granny's shoulders as she smiled at the camera.

The granny held a knitting pin and a number of wools in her hands as she focused on the hat that she was knitting which clearly indicated that she was unaware that a picture of her was being taken.

Skylar smiled as she lovingly looked at the picture. There was a slight resemblance between Sky and the granny.

"Old Nana, I miss you so much. May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace." She muttered as she subconsciously roved her right thumb on the screen.

She remained like that for the next ten minutes until her phone vibrated beside her, bringing Sky out of her world of reverie.

Sky reached out for her phone which was on the stool beside her bedpost. Unlocking it, she was surprised to see four missed calls from Mia, her best friend.

"How come I didn't hear my phone ring? It has been beside me since morning." She muttered to herself.

She checked the mode of the phone and saw that it was not on the silent mode. She figured out that it must have rang when she was fully engrossed in her research earlier that morning.

She contemplated calling Mia whom she knew would be beside herself with worry and might soon come running thinking that something bad has happened to her.

Thinking of her voice which had gone hoarse from crying, she decided to call Mia immediately her voice gets better.

Sky shut down her laptop and dropped it on her reading table. She looked round her room and took a mental note of how she would clean it up.

The big, bright room looked amazing as expensive and huge chandeliers hung from the white celling and the room illuminated with bright lights.

Every single thing in the room screamed money. The room was designed with luxurious electronics and latest wall designs.

Sky's room was painted in red, emerald green and sunset yellow giving the room a beautiful outlook. Taking a glance at the room, one would correctly guess that Sky was a lover of bright colors.

Sky started the cleaning up of her room and was done within thirty minutes. She felt exhausted from all the cleaning and decided to take a quick nap.

Her stomach grumbled loudly reminding her that it has not been fed. She realized that she has not eaten anything that morning.

She had lost her appetite after hours of intense research and mourning. Although she wasn't really hungry, she decided to eat something at least to please her grumbling and loudly protesting stomach.

She baked some apple pies and made some desserts with chocolate toppings as brunch since she couldn't call it breakfast. It was already past twelve in the afternoon.

Going to her exquisite dinning room, she placed her meal on the table and sat on one of the chairs. She was slowly savouring her mouth watering meal as she surfed through her social media with her phone in hand.

Most of the blogs were filled with news about Jasmine Meyer, a top model in city H. She would be celebrating her twenty fourth birthday in few weeks time and the bloggers did a great job in publicizing it. Her fans went gaga over it and there were lots of birthday wishes in advance for their superstar.

She chuckled at what she had been seeing about Jasmine.

"Jasmine is such a famous person" She said to herself while she thought of what she would give Jasmine as a birthday present.

When she was done eating, she packed her plates to the kitchen and washed them. She thought of going out to shop for groceries since going out for fresh air might brighten her mood.

Holding her phone, she began to climb the staircase leading to her room when she felt a bad and eerie omen.

She stood still as she saw a sudden movement in her living room from the corner of her eyes. It was swift and seemed to be well-calculated.

Fear gripped her and she tightly held onto the banisters while she looked towards that direction but she saw nothing.

She took cautious steps to the living room and looked around suspiciously. She calmed down a bit when she saw nothing. She waited for few minutes but everything seemed to be alright.

When she proceeded to go back to her room, she suddenly saw two dark shadows lurking around one of the windows in the living room. She felt her hair stand in fear and horror.

Acting impulsively, she rushed towards the direction but the dark shadows were gone within the twinkle of an eye.

Sky rushed out of the villa and carefully checked everywhere but she saw nothing suspicious. She called the two security men guarding her villa and asked if they noticed strange beings or movements in the villa but they nodded in negative response.

Seeing how troubled their boss was, they offered to check the CCTV cameras in the villa and after a thorough checking, no suspicious movement or person was seen.

This made Sky to think that she needed to go for a brain check or maybe obey Mia who had been pestering her to go for a therapy ever since tragedy struck.

"Am I going crazy now? Have I started seeing incredible things?" confused Skylar decided to give it a try since it seemed that her grief had regenerated into hallucination.

Some hours later, Sky had forgotten about what had happened since she had forced herself to believe that it was just an hallucination and prepared to go out for shopping.

CHAPTER TWO

(AN ANONYMOUS ENEMY)

[City G, Don II's mansion]

"And the girl?" The man spoke rashly to whosoever he was talking to.

He stood in the middle of the small room which he called 'slaughter house'.

In his left hand was a glass cup containing alcoholic wine while his right hand held firmly to his phone which was pressed to his right ear. It was obvious that he was on the phone with a person.

He was a tall, frightening figure and had a cold, static expression on his face. He carried an evil aura around him and looked like a mean wolf about to pounce on a prey.

"Were you seen by her?" He asked impatiently, revealing his tobacco stained teeth.

"Just make sure that you guys are not seen by her and don't fail to give me updates about her." He warned with a cold tone which was vicious enough to make one flinch in fear.

"Lucas, that is none of my business. All I want is that you and your men must keep an eagle eye on her and must
